A Clinico-statistical Review of Experience with 1040 Cases of Various Anal Disorders

Abstract
This report is a clinico-statistical review of experience with 1, 040 cases of various anal disorders which were treated at the Korea University Woo Sok Hospital from Aug., 1969 to Aug., 1974.
1. The sex distribution assumed a ratio of 2.5 1-with 741 males and 299 females and age distribution indicated a predominant incidence in 2nd and 3rd decade.
2. The incidence of the diseases appeared in the order of the hemorrhoid, fissure, perianal abscess and fistula. The hemorrhoid occupied 42.3% of all cases.
3. Predilection of anal diseases was posterior aspect of anal region excluding hemorrhoid. In hemorrhoid multiple occurrence held 55.0%.
4. The main subjective symptoms in anal diseases were bleeding, pain, constipation, discharge and itching sensation. The bleeding and pain in hemorrhoid, constipation in anal fissure, discharge in anal fistula, pain and foreign body sensation in perianal abscess might be specific complaints.
5. Only 168 cases out of 1040 cases (16.1%) underwent surgery and rest of the cases were treated conservatively.
6. Tuberculous origin in operated anal fistula was confirmed by histopathological examination in addition to chest X-Ray and was accounted for 20.7% of all cases.
7. Anoplasty was performed in all the imperforated anus.
8. Operations were performed in 13 cases of 39 cases in anorectal cancer and they were abdominoperineal resection in 10 cases, 2 cases were proximal colostomy, 1 case was exploratory laparotomy and biopsy.
9. Postoperative complications were noted in 12% and were stricture, heavy infection, fistula, and incontinence.
